Xbox 360 HD DVD drive to cost $199 in the U.S.

— 3:19 PM on September 27, 2006

After announcing a price and date for the release of the Xbox 360's upcoming external HD DVD drive in Japan, Microsoft has finally announced details pertaining to the drive's release in North America and Europe. Microsoft says the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player will launch in mid-November at a price of $199.99 USD in North America, €199.99 in France and Germany, and £129.99 in the United Kingdom. Other countries will have to wait until 2007. The drive will come bundled with an HD DVD version of Peter Jackson's King Kong as well as the Xbox 360 Universal Media Remote. Since the remote is worth $29.99 on its own and HD DVD titles typically cost somewhere between $20 and $30, the bundle looks like a reasonable deal.
