Toshiba recalls even more Sony batteries

The toll of recalled Sony batteries has gone up to over seven million worldwide following a second recall announcement by Toshiba. After recalling 340,000 batteries last week, the PC vendor is now announcing a recall for 830,000 additional batteries. This time, affected notebooks include models from Toshiba's Dynabook, Quosimo, Satellite Protege, and Tecra series. Toshiba hasn't yet updated its support site for the new recall, though, and its "Toshiba Battery Pack Exchange Program" link points to last week's recall page.

This epidemic of battery replacements—the largest electronics-related recall in U.S. history, according to the Associated Press—may not be over yet. A press release on the Japan Corporate News Network says Sony is in the process of initiating a global replacement program for some of its batteries, and the AP report on Yahoo News says Fujitsu will be "making a decision" regarding its own notebooks powered by Sony batteries in the near future.
