Acer aiming at top third LCD monitor maker spot

— 1:00 AM on October 11, 2006

Numbers published by the Gartner Research Group in August suggested that Acer was likely to become the third biggest notebook manufacturer in the world this year. DigiTimes now reports that Acer is aiming for another top three spot in 2007, this time for LCD monitors. According to a DisplaySearch report published earlier this year, Acer was in fourth place with 8.6% of the LCD monitor market in the fourth quarter of last year. Ahead of the Taiwanese company were HP with 9.7% of the market, Samsung with 11.3%, and Dell at the top with a 19.2% market share. However, DigiTimes says Acer will increase its LCD monitor shipments from 7.6 million in 2005 to 12 million this year, which could help it soar past HP in 2007.
