Deal of the week: MSI P965 Platinum

Who says Core 2 Duo motherboards have to be expensive? Since our look at Foxconn's ~$100 P9657AA-8KS2H, we've spotted a new MSI motherboard that packs a more impressive feature set with a very attractive—albeit slightly higher—price tag. The MSI P965 Platinum is currently selling for just $137.80 at MWave, but it includes dual PCI Express x16 slots with ATI CrossFire support, an ICH8R south bridge with support for Matrix RAID and Native Command Queuing, seven Serial ATA ports, and FireWire.

We haven't had a chance to test this board's overclocking capabilities ourselves, but the folks over at Hexus managed to crank its front-side bus up to 410MHz. That speed is well above the 340MHz we were able to squeeze out of Abit's AB9 Pro, which to our knowledge is the only other sub-$150 P965 motherboard with an ICH8R south bridge. The P965 Platinum looks like a sweet board, and for $137.80, it seems to be an excellent deal, as well.
