Intel has yet to announce official pricing for its upcoming Core 2 Extreme QX6700 processor, but DigiTimes has gotten its hands on figures for both that chip and a cheaper "Kentsfield" derivative supposedly scheduled for the first quarter of next year. Unsurprisingly, the Taiwanese site says the upcoming quad-core Core 2 Extreme will be priced at $999. Intel disclosed at IDF that the chip will run at 2.66GHz with 8MB of total L2 cache. As for the cheaper Kentsfield, which will be dubbed Core 2 Quad Q6600, DigiTimes says it will launch in January at $851—well above the dual-core Core 2 Duo E6700 that currently retails for $499 on Newegg. Previous rumors have claimed that the Q6600 will run at 2.4GHz and feature the same 8MB of L2 cache as its more extreme sibling.
