Ultra-mobile PCs to sink below $700 next year
In part because of their $999+ price tags, ultra-mobile PCs like Samsung's Q1 have met unfavorable reviews and a fair dose of indifference since the introduction of the UMPC concept back in March. However, Intel has disclosed that the devices will soon begin to drift toward a more reasonable price range. Intel says UMPCs will drop in price to the $600-700 range during the course of next year, and that they will trickle down to $400-500 between 2009 and 2010. The March UMPC launch saw wildly optimistic figures being thrown around, with Microsoft stating that the devices would launch with price tags as low as $599, but these latest estimates seem a little more realistic.
