45nm ATI graphics chips coming in 2008
During a press conference held today, ATI announced its plans regarding process technology shrinks for its future graphics processors. Following Tuesday's launch of the Radeon X1950 Pro, the company's first desktop part with an 80nm GPU, ATI intends to completely move over to the 80nm half-node by the first half of next year. Further down the road, the red team plans to adopt the 45nm node in 2008, although there's no official word on when it will release its first 65nm graphics processors. DigiTimes says Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company began producing 65nm chips for ATI in the middle of this year, and that the Taiwanese foundry has been making 80nm chips for the red team since the end of 2005.
