SoundMax gains audio processing features

Analog Devices, the company behind SoundMax audio codecs, has partnered up with Sonic Focus in a bid to bring real-time sound processing features to SoundMax integrated audio. Sonic Focus already provides such processing features for Intel's onboard audio via the Intel Audio Studio application. Similar technology is now on its way to SoundMax, including the ability to up-mix stereo audio to multiple channels with "physical modeling" to improve sound quality, functionality to down-mix multi-channel movie audio to stereo without obscuring dialogue, a system that "restores and enriches" audio from compressed formats like MP3, and various presets to tune sound quality depending on the user's needs. Analog Devices says SoundMax audio with Sonic Focus processing features is "available now for PC [manufacturers and vendors] shipping the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system."
