— 4:16 PM on November 7, 2006

Hot on Dell's heels, Gateway has introduced three Opteron servers that mark the company's first foray into the AMD server market. The three new servers are dubbed E-9422R, E-9522R, and E-9722R. They take up one, two, and three units of rack space, respectively. The first two support up to two Opterons, while the E-9722R can pack as many as four chips. All three feature an Nvidia MCP55 Pro chipset, quad Gigabit Ethernet controllers, and Matrox G200 integrated graphics. Using 4GB DDR2 modules, the first two servers can pack up to 48GB of memory; the third has room for up to 64GB. According to The Register, Gateway is quoting prices of $1,799 for the E-9422R and $1,849 for the E-9522R, but hasn't detailed pricing for the E-9722R.
