Analyst says a second 'iPhone' is in the works
Apple has yet to even announce the so-called "iPhone" Apple rumor sites have been discussing for the past few months, but word has already gotten out about a second communication device supposedly in the works in the depths of the iPod maker's labs. According to American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu, the new device is likely to integrate instant messaging functionality and could very well be dubbed "iChat mobile." (iChat is the instant messaging and video conferencing application integrated into MacOS X.)
The analyst says the purported iChat mobile device is only at the development stage right now, though. By contrast, many rumors claim the "first" iPhone will come out early next year, perhaps as early as the Macworld show that will take place in mid-January. The Chinese-language Commercial Times even reported that Foxconn had received its first orders for the devices earlier this month.
