VIA to restructure to keep up with AMD, Nvidia

— 4:46 PM on November 22, 2006

Somewhat belittled by the new AMD-ATI union and Nvidia's continuing success in the chipset market, VIA has decided to restructure itself in order to keep up, DigiTimes reports. The Taiwanese firm intends to split itself into three divisions. The first will be responsible for the company's processors, the second will work on core logic chipsets, and the third will be dedicated to VIA's multimedia processors. The company's current CEO, Wen-chi Chen, will head the processor division, while two current senior VPs will be selected to head the remaining two divisions. According to DigiTimes, the move is intended to help VIA become more competitive and efficient.
