5W Core 2 Solos coming next year

Rumors say Intel plans to release single-core Core 2 Duo-based desktop chips under the Pentium brand, but the company may not have given up on the "Solo" moniker after all. According to HKEPC, Intel will launch two Core 2 Solo mobile chips in the third quarter of next year. The two chips will be low-voltage models dubbed Core 2 Solo U2100 and U2200. The U2100 model will run at 1.06GHz, while the faster U2200 chip will be clocked at 1.2GHz. Both processors will have 1MB of cache, a 533MHz front-side bus, and a thermal rating of just 5W. HKEPC says the two chips will also be joined by a Celeron M 523 ULV, which will have the same FSB and thermal rating as the Core 2 Solos, but come clocked at just 933MHz.
