Friday night topic: Reading others' email

— 9:11 PM on January 19, 2007

Reading someone else's email has never been cool with me. During my years as a sysadmin, I was always the guy in the organization with access to everyone else's mail—and yet I practically never read others' mail, except when sorting through mail delivery issues or the like. Yet I know some folks who read each others' email—husbands and wives, for instance—freely and as a matter of practice. Some people even share an account—for personal use. Does that seem odd to you? Do you have a spouse, child, or friend whose email you read? What about you sysadmins out there: ever take an afternoon and browse the ol' inboxes? Ever learn anything you wish you hadn't from it? Discuss.
