MSI seeks partnerships with other mobo makers

— 5:06 PM on February 5, 2007

The joint venture between Asus and Gigabyte began operations last month, and now MSI has publicly stated that it, too, seeks to partner up with a competitor. DigiTimes quotes MSI president Hsiang Hsu as saying the following:

[Hsu] stated at the company's annual banquet, held on February 3, 2007, that motherboard makers in Taiwan have the opportunity for increased profitability, if they are willing to cooperate with each other. MSI may be looking to form alliances in the future, even with motherboard makers that are not running the same business plan as the company, Hsu said.
According to Hsu, MSI hopes to achieve 50% growth in the notebook and consumer electronics segments as well as 30% growth in the distribution channel this year. A patnership would allow MSI to better compete with the Asus-Gigabyte duo as well as Foxconn, which held the number two spot behind Asus in 2005.
