Deal of the week: 65nm Athlon 64 X2 4000+ for $145

— 5:13 PM on February 9, 2007

AMD's 65nm "Brisbane" processors are slowly but surely arriving on store shelves, and we spotted an interesting deal on one of the chips today. The 65nm Athlon 64 X2 4000+ has an official list price of $158 according to AMD's website, but Newegg is currently selling the chip for $145. That's $10 more than the Athlon 64 X2 3800+, but the X2 4000+ runs 100MHz faster, has a 65W thermal envelope, and seems to be a pretty decent overclocker. Results with similar low-end Brisbane chips from both AMDZone and various users on the XtremeSystems forums tend to cluster around the 3GHz mark. That's within the same range of our 65nm Athlon 64 X2 5000+, which we were able to push to 2.93GHz with no stability problems. Whether you intend to overclock or not, the X2 4000+ looks like a nice deal for anyone planning to build a cheap, low-power system.
