TR reviews the 3dfx Voodoo 5 5500 AGP

— 12:20 AM on September 19, 2000

Our own Scott "Dr. Damage" Wasson has whipped up what has to be the Ford Excursion of Voodoo 5 reviews. This thing is huge, people. He tackles every aspect of the card in detail, from frame rates in popular games to a breakdown of fill rate versus triangle throughput, a look at something fishy going on with trilinear filtering, as well as a detailed discussion of FSAA and the other T-Buffer effects.

The review compares the V5 to a number of NVIDIA's offerings, and Scott delayed the review so he could incorporate the latest NVIDIA drivers, the Detonator 3's, in the test. If you're contemplating a new video card purchase, this article will let you know how the performance race stands with these newer drivers. And if you're not, it's still an interesting read, so go read it.
