Core 2 Quad prices to go as low as $266 in Q3?

If there's any truth to the rumors we're hearing, the price of Intel's Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor will tumble almost 70% by the third quarter of this year. Currently selling around the $850 mark, the chip is expected to go down to $530 next quarter amidst a round of price cuts. However, the folks at HKEPC have also learned from Taiwanese sources that Intel will apply yet another price cut to its quad-core chips in the third quarter, leaving the Core 2 Quad Q6600 with a price tag of just $266. HKEPC says Intel will re-introduce the Core 2 Extreme QX6700 as a Core 2 Quad Q6700 and reduce its price to $530, as well. These price cuts will leave room for a so-called Core 2 Extreme QX6800, the site says, which will run at 2.93GHz with 4MB of cache per die (8MB total), a 1066MHz front-side bus, and a $999 price tag.
