3GHz Core 2 Duo to cost $266 in the third quarter?

— 12:34 PM on March 13, 2007

Following yesterday's rumors regarding $266 Core 2 Quad processors, HKEPC has learned more about Intel's purported price cut plans for the third quarter. Not only is the company expected to bring the price of its Core 2 Duo Q6600 processor to $266, but HKEPC says Intel will also apply the same price tag to a yet-unreleased 3GHz Core 2 Duo E6850, which will have a 1333MHz front-side bus.

Better yet, a rumored 2.66GHz/1333MHz Core 2 Duo E6750 will tumble down to just $183 in the third quarter. And for $20 less, shoppers will also be able to get their hands on a 2.33GHz Core 2 Duo E6550. On the low-end, HKEPC says Intel will introduce a Core 2 Duo E4500 with a 2.2GHz clock speed at a price of only $133. Considering the company's 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo E6600 currently costs around $316, those price cuts—if they do happen—will be quite drastic indeed. (Thanks to TR reader Gajanan for the tip.)
