Deal of the week: Intel price cuts

— 5:02 PM on April 27, 2007

We've covered AMD's repeated price cuts quite extensively in our Friday deal posts over the past few months. Earlier this week, Intel applied some significant cuts to its Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors, so now it's time to take another look at Intel's CPU lineup. Here are the Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad chips affected by Intel's cut, their old prices, and the lowest price we could find on our price search engine:

Old price

Retail price

Core 2 Quad Q6600 $851 $542.85
Core 2 Duo E6700 $530 $327.87
Core 2 Duo E6600 $316 $227.00
Core 2 Duo E6420 - $189.00
Core 2 Duo E6400 $224 $189.00
Core 2 Duo E6320 - $169.00
Core 2 Duo E6300 $183 $169.00
Core 2 Duo E4400 - $139.00
Core 2 Duo E4300 $163 $117.50

To get an idea of how those prices compare with AMD's, check out our news post about the subject. The Core 2 Duo E4300 and E4400 in particular look rather enticing, especially considering how much overclockers have been able to squeeze out of the former so far. Intel's discounting has also done a decent job of democratizing quad-core processing by pegging the Core 2 Quad Q6600 below the $550 mark, which is roughly where the dual-core Core 2 Duo E6700 sat before the cut.
