Radeon HD 2900 XT overclocked to 1.2GHz

— 11:18 AM on May 16, 2007

In our review of AMD's new Radeon HD 2900 XT, we saw that the card draws a fair amount of power—about as much as Nvidia's GeForce 8800 Ultra under load, even though its performance is more comparable to the GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB. Well, this high power consumption apparently failed to frighten the Swedish folks over at NordicHardware, because they strapped a liquid nitrogen cooler to their Radeon HD 2900 XT and managed to overclock the card from its stock core speed of 742MHz to a blistering 1211MHz. They took the opportunity to bump the card's memory from the stock 825MHz to 999MHz, as well, yielding peak memory bandwidth of 127.9GB/s. At those speeds, the card managed to reach 54215 3DMarks in Futuremark's 3DMark03 test.
