No 80GB PS3 planned for the U.S. market—yet

— 1:11 AM on May 24, 2007

We've seen evidence that Sony is planning a version of its console with an 80GB hard drives for a couple of months now. According to an Associated Press article quoted by the Denver Post, the 80GB console is aimed at the South Korean market, where it will become available starting on June 16. Sony Computer Entertainment spokesman Satoshi Fukuoka told the AP, "We make such decisions depending on the needs of the market, and every country is different." Indeed, Fukuoka says online gaming and broadband connections are more widespread in South Korea, thus justifying the need for higher storage capacities. Nonetheless, Fukuoka tells the AP that the 80GB model of the PlayStation 3 "is being considered for the U.S. and other markets." No decision has been made yet, however.
