ATI Radeon owners get free Valve games

— 4:27 PM on May 30, 2007

Valve and ATI/AMD have enjoyed a priviledged relationship for a few years now. Before Half-Life 2 came out, some Radeon graphics cards came bundled with a free coupon for the game. And today, Radeon HD 2900 XT cards come with a coupon for the upcoming Half-Life 2: Episode Two "Black Box", which includes Episode Two, Team Fortress 2, and Portal (and, incidentally, is no longer scheduled to hit the retail market.)

Well, Valve has now gone one step further by offering a deal that all Radeon users can enjoy. As Shacknews reports, Valve's Steam online content distribution system now automatically detects users with Radeon graphics cards and allows them to download and play Half-Life 2: Lost Coast and Half-Life 2: Deathmatch free of charge. Valve's Steam site says the offer is only valid for a limited time, so this sounds like a good opportunity for Radeon users who still haven't played HL2.
