Apple tries to shrink the iPhone

— 12:02 PM on June 13, 2007

The latest iPhone picture on Apple's website suggests the device has been on an intensive diet since its first showing back in January. The hand holding the iPhone makes it look about the size of other cell phones rather than its bulky 2.4" x 4.5" x 0.46" self. However, as the folks at Gizmodo point out, that may not exactly be so.

Indeed, it looks like Apple has given former pro wrestler André the Giant a posthumous cameo in order to make the iPhone look smaller: the latest photo simply has a model with a bigger hand holding the device. The dimensions in Apple's tech specs section haven't changed, and it looks like the iPhone that will become available on June 29 is still the exact same size as the one Apple showed six months ago.
