Launch schedule for Nvidia MCP73 remains uncertain

— 10:02 AM on June 26, 2007

We saw some motherboards based on Nvidia's MCP73 chipset at Computex earlier this month, but according to DigiTimes, it still isn't clear when those are going to roll out. The chipset was originally scheduled to launch last month, but it's still in pre-production, and sources at motherboard manufacturers claim a shipping date "still remains unclear."

Nonetheless, Nvidia plans to send samples to motherboard makers for testing this week. If Nvidia can finalize the chip before the end of the month, motherboard manufacturers say the MCP73 could launch some time in August. If Nvidia misses that time frame, the MCP73 could miss the back-to-school sales season, and motherboard makers may even lose interest in the chipset altogether.
