Insurgency mod for Half-Life 2 released

If you've been looking for an excuse to dig up your copy of Half-Life 2 (or if you've simply been longing for a fresh HL2 mod to try), Insurgency: Modern Infantry Combat has finally been released
. This mod has been in the works for four years, and it's been surrounded by a fair amount of hype over the past few months. In short, the modification aims to give players a taste of the combat operations going on in Iraq. It stacks players in two teams—U.S. Army and Iraqi insurgents—and lets them fight it out in a handful of locations modeled after Iraqi cities and villages.
This is no Counter-Strike: there's no heads-up display to speak of, no ammo counter, no health counter, and no map. Players must sprint, crawl, peek, and use their weapons' iron sights to survive, and a single shot from an AK-47 is often enough to make you bite the dust. The mod's graphics are a treat, too, with beautifully modeled maps, realistic weapons, and high dynamic range lighting aplenty. If you're prepared to deal with a few bugs and a good number of clueless first-time players, you can grab the mod from these download sites.
