The folks at DigiTimes have news from the Taiwanese supply chain, where word is going around that Apple will introduce a new iPod with an iPhone-like touch screen next month. Rumors about new iPods seem to crop up all the time, but DigiTimes names a specific manufacturer—Wintek—who is said to be the supplier of panels for the new iPods. According to DigiTimes, Wintek is gearing up to start shipments of capacitive touch screen panels in the second half of this year.
A new iPod launch in August would fit roughly within Apple's yearly iPod refresh cycle. Current iPods came out in September 2006, while the previous generation arrived in October 2005, and the generation before that rolled out in July 2004.
