Core 2 Quad Q6600 goes down to $266

As expected, Intel has taken the axe to its processor price list. Far from hitting the entire Core 2 lineup, though, the price cut seems to be a much more targeted endeavor. As DailyTech reports, only the Core 2 Quad Q6600 and the Core 2 Duo E4000 series have been hit—the rest of Intel's Core 2 lineup hasn't budged. The Core 2 Quad Q6600 has dropped from $530 to a cool $266, while the Core 2 Duo E4400 has gone down from $133 to $113. A new chip, the 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo E4500, has also replaced the E4400 at the $133 mark.

These cuts seem to be a complementary effort to the introduction of the Core 2 Duo E6050 series and Core 2 Quad Q6700 that happened a week ago. The new Core 2 Duo E6850, E6750, and E6550 undercut the previous Core 2 Duo E6000 series by a fair margin, and the Core 2 Quad Q6700 effectively took the Q6600's place at $530.
