3GHz Phenom system pictured
We just mentioned that AMD showed off a desktop quad-core system clocked at 3GHz and outfitted with triple Radeon HD 2900 graphics cards at its analyst day today. Here are a couple of pictures of the system in action:
One thing worth pointing out is that the chip is running at 3GHz with just a regular stock heatsink and fan. AMD's souped-up processor also seems to be fitted on a reference board based on AMD's own RD790 chipset. We saw a number of similar boards at Computex last month. They support Socket AM2+ processors, HyperTransport 3.0, and feature four PCI Express x16 slots, although in the system shown above, only three of the slots are populated.
