Deal of the week: Intel's Core 2 Quad Q6600

— 3:00 PM on July 27, 2007

Our deal of the week is a no-brainer. Intel recently dragged the price of its most affordable quad-core processor under the $300 mark, making it the cheapest quad-core offering ever by far. The Core 2 Quad Q6600's listed price is now $266—roughly half its previous $530 price tag—but demand is high, and many stores seem to be overcharging. The cheapest Q6600 we can find through our price search engine is on Mwave, which charges $289 for the chip. Other online retailers are asking anywhere between $296 and $1050 for the same processor right now, so Mwave's $23 surcharge over the official list price isn't too bad. And considering the level of performance the Core 2 Quad Q6600 can offer in applications that support more than two cores, anything less than $300 is a fantastic deal for this processor.
