Last month, BFG Technologies introduced a pair of GeForce 8600 GTS cards outfitted with a custom-designed cooler known simply as "ThermoIntelligence." We subsequently reviewed the flagship model—the GeForce 8600 GTS OC2—and found the cooler to be very quiet, although its cooling performance wasn't as exceptional as BFG's marketing materials would have one believe. We found the card's price to be rather high, too.
Well, BFG is back with a pair of cheaper cards that sport the very same ThermoIntelligence cooler. Both new cards are based on the slower GeForce 8600 GT graphics processor, but BFG has taken care to "factory overclock" the two models. The GeForce 8600 GT OC2 has a core clock speed of 620MHz (up from the stock 540MHz) and a memory speed of either 800MHz for the 256MB version or 750MHz for the 512MB variant (up from 700MHz for the reference.) The ThermoIntelligence-equipped GeForce 8600 GT OC has a 565MHz core clock and a 700MHz memory clock.
