Bumpy road for Linux 2.4

— 6:49 PM on October 9, 2000

Is Linux becoming more and more like Windows? WinInformant has this interesting story on the delay of Linux 2.4. This snag coupled with the delay in the Netscape 6/Mozilla projects has brought the Open Source movement under fire. As Linux begins to move beyond a niche product, no doubt the maturation process will be difficult. Apple found this to be ture. Seriously, this only proves that developing a modern OS is not a trivial thing. osOpinion has a good piece claiming that the current state of Linux is in disarray. The Open Source movement is both a blessing and a curse in that it allows universal access to the client. If Linux is ever to grab a larger share of the market, some kind of standardization seems inevitable even if anathema to Linux/Open Source acolytes.
