Firefox 2.0.0.8 released

— 3:49 PM on October 19, 2007

Mozilla has released an update for its popular Firefox web browser, bringing it to version 2.0.0.8. The new version of Firefox delivers a handful of security fixes, as well as support for the next version of Apple's operating system, Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. Mozilla also says the browser is now available to users from Romania and Georgia—the country, not the state—in their native languages.

Among the security fixes that made it in the new release are two patches for critical flaws, which include memory corruption-inducing crash bugs and a security hole that allowed malicious JavaScript code to run with user privileges. Mozilla also fixed two "moderate" flaws and one security problem rated "low." A complete list of security fixes is available on this page.

Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.8 can be downloaded from the Firefox page here. As always, users with previous versions of the browser installed can update by going into the "Help" menu and clicking "Check for updates."
