TR Forum Tidings: Vista x86 vs Vista x64

— 6:00 AM on December 19, 2007

For today's forum tidings post, we've picked out a thread from our Windows forum where TR gerbil Scorpiuscat is asking for help choosing between 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista for his gaming PC. Scorpiuscat says he plans to format his computer soon and that he already has both 32-bit and 64-bit discs, so the choice really comes down to whether Vista x64 is right for his machine.

A handful of other gerbils have already chipped in with their input, and advice definitely seems to be in favor of Vista x64 so far. Hance, who was first to reply, points out that installing the 64-bit version is better from a memory upgrading capability standpoint, since it offers hassle-free support for 4GB of RAM or more. Gerbils Da_Boss and End User add that their own experiences with Vista x64 have been positive, while others tell Scorpiuscat to take the plunge—but only after double-checking 64-bit drivers are available for his hardware.

Are you also among those who think Vista x64 is mature enough for a modern gaming PC, or do you think it's wiser to stick with Vista x86 for the time being? Did you try Vista x64 yourself, and if so, what was your experience? If you have any additional advice to contribute, feel free to give Scorpiuscat your two cents. As always, make sure you register a forum account first.
