Dell charges $299 for the high-end Xbox 360 Elite

— 4:36 PM on August 6, 2008

What's better than a vanilla Xbox 360 for $299.99? How about one of Microsoft's top-of-the-line Xbox 360 Elite consoles for a dollar less? In a move that may well divert customers from its high-end gaming PCs, Dell is currently offering that exact deal on its Home & Home Office online store.

The Xbox 360 Elite comes with a 120GB hard drive and normally retails for $449.99. Dell bundles the system with Forza Motorsport 2, Marvel Ultimate Alliance Gold Edition, an HDMI cable, and a pair of custom face plates.

This deal comes as a new $349.99 Xbox 360 with a 60GB hard drive starts hitting stores. Microsoft aims for the pricier 60GB system to replace the $299.99, 20GB console once stocks of the latter run out. (Thanks to DailyTech for the tip.)

Update: Well, that didn't take long. Dell has reverted the price to the original $449.99.
