Both Intel and AMD ended up cutting prices earlier this week, so we're left with a handful of very attractively priced quad-core processors—perfect for our weekly deal post.
Starting with Intel, since it cut prices first, you'll find the 2.66GHz Core 2 Quad Q9400 selling for $223.50 at Mwave and the 2.5GHz Core 2 Quad Q8300 for only $190 with free shipping at Newegg. Depending on your budget, you may also be interested in the Core 2 Quad Q8200, which runs at a slower 2.33GHz but is available for a scant $170 shipped.
On the AMD side of things, Newegg offers the Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition for $235 shipped and the Phenom II X4 920 for just $195 shipped. The 940 model is particularly interesting, since it's competitive with the Core 2 Quad Q9400 and has an unlocked upper multiplier that can make overclocking a snap. The 920 chip is also a worthy alternative to the Q8300, though, and both Phenoms should work in existing Socket AM2+ motherboards.
