Deal of the week: A quiet terabyte for $76.49

— 5:09 PM on June 19, 2009

While hunting for parts for our upcoming system guide, we noticed that Western Digital's 1TB Caviar Green is now down to a scant $84.99 with free shipping at Newegg. Pretty good, right?

But there's more. The guys at SlickDeals have posted a 10%-off coupon code (EMCHDD10A) for internal, external, and laptop hard drives at Newegg. Paste that code into the checkout page, and the 1TB Caviar Green can be yours for $76.49 shipped.

To put things into perspective, $76.49 for a terabyte works out to just under eight cents a gigabyte. And this is a great hard drive: it's extremely quiet, very power-efficient, and has respectable performance for a mass-storage solution. (A low spindle speed makes the Green a little sluggish for a system drive, but you can't have your cake and eat it, too.) Check out our review for all the specifics.
