Transmeta and AMD in bed together

— 6:35 AM on January 3, 2001

Spotted this story over at AMDZone. A C|Net story has Transmeta helping AMD penetrate the server market.

Under a complex deal yet to be announced, sources say AMD is sending to software developers computers that run on competitor Transmeta's Crusoe processor and contain a special version of Transmeta's "code-morphing" software. The computers are designed to run a program that simulates AMD's upcoming server chip, called Sledgehammer, the sources said.
AMD will announce their financial results for Q4 and FY 2000 on January 17.

Update: Rob Enderle, VP of Desktop and Mobile Technology at Giga Information Group, speculates on a future merger between AMD and Transmeta.
