IDE controllers are...

in da Bench House (cool name). They do an IDE controller roundup with the VIA 686A, VIA 686B (South Bridges), Promise PDC-20265, PDC-20267, Abit Hot Rod 100 Pro (HighPoint), and Intel ICH2 controllers. Looks like we are getting closer and closer to a 3Ware Escalade vs. Promise SuperTrak 100 vs. HighPoint something or other head-to-head-to-head ATA-100 / RAID comparison. Unfortunately, no RAID testing is done here but Bench House does a fair job as no one controller gets an unqualified nod as "the best." Their conclusion might leave you unsatisfied but the comparison is still a worthwhile read.
