Toshiba does handheld graphics

Toshiba has announced a new video chip designed specifically for handheld devices. The chip promises good performance *and* battery life as integrated memory reduces power consumption. Here's a look at the specs.

  • 12MB integrated memory
  • encoder and decoder for MPEG-4
  • RISC processor core
  • 70MHz clock speed
Samples will make their way into the mainstream late in the year with the focus being mainly on wireless devices. In any case a low power video solution is something the handheld market sorely needs, now if only they could come up with lower power screens. You can check out the full story at here.
