For the last three years, Codemasters' DiRT franchise has offered some of the best driving games on any platform. Unlike many console ports, the PC versions of DiRT and its sequel have actually been pretty good. Let's hope the same holds true DiRT 3, which has just debuted in trailer form.
The trailer doesn't show much actual gameplay, but it does provide a glimpse of some pretty slick weather effects, including rain and snow. Then, at the 50-second mark, the slow motion kicks in as Ken Block's Fiesta power-slides around an exploding truck. In addition to the usual mix of racing modes, it looks like the next DiRT title will let users film their own stunt-filled gymkhana videos. Sweet!
Codemasters has been able to bring new driving modes to the franchise formerly known as Colin McRae Rally without killing its rally roots. Gymkhana would be a nice addition to the mix, especially if machinima maestros are given all the tools they need to make epic videos.
