The last pair of deal posts might have included solid-state drives, but make no mistake—there are still many bargains to be found in the vibrant world of mechanical storage.
Take Samsung's 1TB Spinpoint F3, which we crowned with an Editor's Choice award this summer. This drive normally retails for around $74.99, but Newegg has it on sale right now for an inviting $59.99 with free shipping. Not bad for an Editor's Choice winner, huh? Longer warranties are available from Western Digital's Caviar Black line, but we're not too fond of the tradeoffs: inferior overall desktop performance and higher noise levels. The Spinpoint F3 is an exceedingly well-rounded choice for use as a desktop PC's system drive.
Western Digital fans might like our next deal, though. Newegg currently offers a 2TB Caviar Green with a free Rosewill USB 2.0 docking station for $99.98 shipped. The bundle includes the newest version of the Green, which uses Advanced Format and has a 64MB cache. As for the docking station, it normally costs $20.99 and features USB 2.0 connectivity as well as support for both 3.5" and 2.5" hard drives. Fun fact: the Caviar Green actually costs a penny more on its own—$99.99.
