After reading Cyril's review of HP's Pavilion dm1z ultraportable, there's no doubt in my mind that it should be our deal of the week. The base model may not be discounted from its $449 asking price. However, HP is currently offering a free upgrade to 3GB of system memory and a 320GB, 7,200-RPM hard drive. Throw in free shipping, and that's the best budget notebook deal around.
Adding a solid-state drive would make the dm1z a little more responsive, and Newegg has a nice deal on OCZ's 60GB Agility 2. Normally $160, the drive's price has been slashed to $120.
Otherwise, NCIX looks to have the best assortment of deals this week. The site's March Savings event is running right now, and residents of both Canada and the US can get in on the action. By far the biggest discount is on Corsair's A50 CPU cooler, which has been knocked from $60 down to just $15. Corsair's awesome 600T enclosure has also had its price reduced, this time from $170 to just $120. Western Digital's 500GB Scorpio Black, which just happens to be our favorite mechanical notebook drive, is selling for only $55. Those prices are the same for NCIX's Canadian and US sites.
