Apple goes x86?

— 3:45 PM on March 13, 2001

This may not actually materialize but both wincent and The Register are reporting that Apple may introduce AMD-based x86 thin clients for the MacOS X. Caveats aside, here is wincent's introduction:

Although every effort has been made to verify the following article as true, it is by nature forward-looking analysis and should be treated as such.

Apple intends to utilise new capabilties in its near-release next generation operating system to enable a new class of multi-user remote access devices, and intends to market such a device itself, which will be based on an AMD x86 chip.
