Fitness games could be the next big thing. Week after week, I keep seeing reports that Zumba Fitness is on top of the UK gaming charts yet again. I notice these stories not only because the girl on the cover has shiny abs, but also because I've heard a lot of people talking about these kinds of games. The other weekend, a guy in front of me in line was bragging to a friend about having lost 20 lbs playing Wii Fit. Even juiceheads in too-tight Tapout tshirts can get a console workout thanks to UFC Personal Trainer.
The rise of motion controllers is responsible for making these kinds of games possible, and people seem to be interested. As someone who has spent countless hours in boring weight rooms, I can see the appeal of a more interactive experience, especially if it can make a workout seem less like, well, work. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be much in the way of fitness games for the PC. There aren't many motion controllers for the platform, and you probably have more room for aerobics in your living room, anyway.
Although fitness games are selling, I can't help but wonder if they won't end up like most other workout equipment—gathering dust in the basement after only a few weeks or months of use. Do any of you have experience with fitness games? Do they work?
