EA made good on its promise to spill the beans about Crysis 3 today. It and Crytek have officially announced the game, posting not only details about the story and setting but also giving gamers a release time frame and several screenshots to gawk at.
In the upcoming title, which EA calls "the premier sandbox shooter experience of 2013," players will once again fill the shoes of Crysis 2's protagonist: Prophet, a nanosuit-clad Marine. Here's a snippet from the announcement:
Players take on the role of ‘Prophet’ as he returns to New York, only to discover that the city has been encased in a Nanodome created by the corrupt Cell Corporation. The New York City Liberty Dome is a veritable urban rainforest teeming with overgrown trees, dense swamplands and raging rivers. Within the Liberty Dome, seven distinct and treacherous environments become known as the Seven Wonders. This dangerous new world demands advanced weapons and tactics. Prophet will utilize a lethal composite bow, an enhanced Nanosuit and devastating alien tech to become the deadliest hunter on the planet.

According to EA and Crytek, Crysis 3 is scheduled for a cross-platform release on the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 next spring. The companies are offering "early multiplayer unlocks" to folks who pre-order the game; you can learn all about those in the official press release. Oh, and according to the newly updated Crysis website, a video trailer is coming out in "7 days." Stay tuned.
