Does Sun want your money or not?

Slashdot pointed me to this ZDNet story discussing how Sun is going to start charging branding royalties of three percent to allow vendors to label their products with the new Java 2 Enterprise Edition. Vendors are complaining that this practice is somewhat unique among "standards-setting bodies," and many are upset about being pressured into paying the royalties.

Does he or doesn't he? This whole story reminded me of a picture I'd taken at Comdex. I'd forgotten about it, and thought someone would've covered it by now, but I haven't seen any reference to it. The picture is of a large (and I mean large) banner that covered one side of an above-ground parking garage across the street from the Las Vegas Convention Center. You can see the full-size picture here. As you can see, someone made a slight modificiation to the banner that changed its message a bit. I took this picture on Thursday; the "addition" was gone later that day. Given the above, it seems all the more relevant now. Heh heh.
