I love zombies as much as the next guy—maybe even more. However, even I have to admit that they've kind of been done to, er, undeath. The gaming industry in particular needs something fresh, and Dark may have the answer: vampires. This stealth action game is due out next quarter, and in it, you assume the role of one of the bloodthirsty breed. Check out the official trailer:
I'm getting a Max Payne meets Splinter Cell vibe, and snippets of the trailer hint at a pseudo-cel-shaded art style reminiscent of Borderlands. That said, the graphics look more low-fi than high-art. I see a lot of blurry textures and blocky models but not much in the way of actual style. There are a few glaring visual artifacts, too, and I can't attribute them to YouTube's video compression.
Smells like a console port to me. Dark will indeed be coming to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in addition to the PC.
Visuals aren't everything, of course, and Dark looks like it could be fun to play. The vampire theme certainly seems well-suited to sneaking around in the dark, as does the third-person perspective. Let's hope Blade and 30 Days of Night were bigger influences than Twilight. Thanks to Rock, Paper, Shotgun for the tip.
