As you may have heard, there's a major CPU launch coming up soon. I've been meeting with folks, gathering new parts, and prepping my test rigs for the testing to come. It's time to refresh our CPU test suite entirely, with new hardware and new applications and benchmarks. I'm planning, of course, to conduct some CPU-focused inside the second game testing with the latest games, and I'll be doing my trademark kilojoules-per-task energy efficiency testing. I expect to use updated versions of some of the applications we've used in the past, too.
Do you have other suggestions for CPU tests we should conduct? We're always on the lookout for new workloads or usage scenarios that might be worth benchmarking. I'm looking for AVX-optimized applications, especially ones capable of using FMA instructions. I'm also open to suggestions for which games would make good candidates for stressing the latest processors. I can't promise I'll have the time and resources to incorporate every suggestion, especially in the short window before the next review, but I expect to try some of them. Your input is a big help!
