Right on schedule, the Windows 8.1 preview has become available. You'll find a step-by-step installation guide on the official Windows Blog, but if you're looking for the download links, you'll want to head here.
According to Microsoft, the installation process involves grabbing an update for the Windows Store app, which in turn downloads the 8.1 preview and installs it. The whole thing looks pretty user-friendly, with big Modern UI screens that explain what's going on. The only kink might be for folks with 32-bit Atom systems. Apparently, those machines may require a graphics driver update before they can install the Windows 8.1 preview.
Microsoft has also posted a colorful and mildly seizure-inducing teaser video for Windows 8.1:
I love the part where the Start button's return is prefaced by, "More of what you love." Yeah, Microsoft, we love the Start button. We also loved the Start menu. Why can't we get more of that?
