Last month, Geoff wrote about a Kickstarter campaign for a spiritual sequel to Syndicate—the 1993 original, that is. The campaign was kicked off by 5 Lives Studios, an indie developer whose staff includes members of the original Syndicate Wars team.
Well, with three days to go, the Kickstarter campaign has already reached its funding goal. The £350,000 ($536,130) target has actually been exceeded by £17,404 ($26,673), and I'm sure there will be additional pledges before the July 28 deadline.
5 Lives Studios' project is entitled Satellite Reign, and it's billed as a "real-time, class-based strategy game, set in an open world cyberpunk city." The title is being developed for Windows, OS X, and Linux using the Unity Engine. Earlier this week, 5 Lives posted a sneak preview of what Satellite Reign gameplay will look like. Clearly, this is much truer to the original Syndicate than the dubstep-infused shooter Starbreeze Studios and EA released last year.
